ASU Tennis Hosts USC and UCLA in Toughest Pac-12 Competition Yet
Thursday, 04/04/2013

On the heels of a twelve match win streak, the No. 22 Arizona State Sun Devils (15-1; 5-0 Pac-12) women's tennis team will host conference rivals USC and UCLA in Pac-12 play on Friday and Saturday afternoon at the Whiteman Tennis Center in Tempe, Ariz.

Fresh off of two wins this past weekend in the state of Washington, ASU Head Coach Sheila McInerney and the team will play the first match at their home court in almost a month. However, playing as the visiting team proved not to be a challenge, as Arizona State went a perfect 5-0 on the road stand.

USC has a national ranking of No.5 and is the only other undefeated team remaining in the Pac-12 -- the women of Troy are 17-2 overall, boasting a 6-0 Pac-12 conference record. They are fresh off two wins against No. 11 California and No. 12 Stanford at home.

This weekends matchups will easily be the toughest challenge yet for the Sun Devils. Friday's match marks the opening of the back-half of the Pac-12 schedule, a schedule that features four out of five matches against squads ranked in the top-12 in the nation. Arizona State currently has two student-athletes placed ranked nationally. Senior Jacqueline Cako is ranked No. 23 in the nation while freshman Desirae Krawczyk is ranked No. 106.

Doubles play has been a strong point for ASU -- the Sun Devils have two ranked teams in doubles play. No. 40 Jacqueline Cako and Nicole Smith and No. 62 Leighann Sahagun and Desirae Krawczyk have both competed strong, with ASU clinching the doubles point this past season more often than not.

The first matchup of the weekend against USC will take place on Friday afternoon, April 5, at 1:30 p.m. Saturday's matchup against UCLA will take place at noon. Stick with thesunedevils.com and Like the Arizona State University Women's Tennis Team on Facebook for all the latest news.
