FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. – Playing in the prestigious USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, California’s fifth-seeded Zsofi Susanyi suffered a three-set loss in her opening match on Thursday at the USTA Billie Jean National King Tennis Center.

A junior ranked fourth in the ITA preseason singles poll, Susanyi won the first set against Georgia’s 14th-ranked Maho Kowase, but the Golden Bear ultimately lost, 5-7, 6-3, 6-1.

Susanyi moves onto the singles consolation draw at national indoors, which concludes on Sunday. Her teammates begin play in the ASU Thunderbird Invitational on Friday in Tempe, Ariz.
