Dartmouth Tandem Takes Big Green Invitational Doubles Title
The Big Green Invitational was a big success this weekend with lots of great tennis being played.
The Singles Champion turned out to be the unseeded big southpaw from Saint Francis College of NY (via the Czech Republic), Jindra Chaloupka. Jindra tamed the first seed Aba Omodele-Lucien (Haavaad) 6-4,6-4 in the semifinals and Allister Felton (Haavaad) by the same score in the final. *SIGNIFICANT NOTE the only set that he dropped was to Dartmouth's Chris Ho in a thrilling 4-6,6-4 (10-8) match.
Jindra also advanced to the doubles final and with partner Danhaldi Robinson against Dartmouth's Ari Gayer and Curtis Roby. The duo had 3 match points with Ari Gayer '09 serving Love=40 at 7-8. Ari and his partner Curtis Roby '11 were up to the moment bringing it back to duce and winning the game. At 8 all the match went to a tie break. Dartmouth went up 3-0 in the breaker only to lose the next 3 points. At 3 all the Green Team never looked back serving and returning well and closing out the tough Saint Francis tandem 7-3. Very Exciting Match and Win!
The fall season comes to an end with lots of great tennis behind this young team and lots of challenges ahead starting January 15th. Look for the upcoming events like the annual Dartmouth Pro Am, the yearly adult and junior winter clinics and of course the February 6th kick off team match vs. University of North Carolina Greensboro.
This upcoming weekend will be the Women's Big Green Invite. Hope to see you all at the courts.
PS - I have enclosed a couple of pictures of the champions!
