Tennis falls to IU to open spring season

Georgetown College men's and women's tennis teams kicked off the spring season with a pair of losses to University of Indianapolis, an NCAA Division II school. The Greyhounds men, currently 3-0 on the season, defeated GC's men 7-2, while UI beat the women 8-1 in its first match.

The Tigers were swept in the doubles competition on both sides. GC coach Jessica Cunningham's No. 1 men's doubles of Benjamin Aspillaga and Chris Bartlett and No. 2 women's team of Shelby Eden and Natalie Hill had the closes matches. The men lost 8-6 and the women fell 9-7.

On the men's side, Gustavo Echevarria and Carlos Del Valle won in straight sets - (6-4, 6-3) and (7-5, 6-1) respectively, to give the Tigers their two points.

Jacqueline Otis also won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, over IU's Claire Liles in the No. 3 position for the women's point.

Both teams return to action Saturday at Bellarmine University, another NCAA D II opponent.
