Irina Falconi picked up Tech’s lone singles win Sunday

EVANSTON, Ill. – Sophomore Irina Falconi topped the nation’s 12th-ranked
player but the 14th-ranked Georgia Tech Women’s Tennis Team fell to No.
2 Northwestern, 6-1, Sunday afternoon at the Combe Tennis Center.

"We got outplayed today and I give Northwestern credit," head coach
Bryan Shelton said. "They are a very good team."

The Yellow Jackets, who have been struggling in doubles this season,
dropped two of three matches to the Wildcats to fall behind 1-0.
Sophomore Irina Falconi and junior Sasha Krupina won their fourth
straight doubles match and ninth of the dual-match season with an 8-6
win over Samantha Murray and Elena Chernyakova on court one.

Northwestern would then take five of the six singles matches to clinch
its 10th victory of the season. Falconi, the nation’s top-ranked player,
earned the Jackets lone singles point when she defeated No. 12 Maria
Mosolova, 6-4, 6-4, at the top spot in the lineup.

Falconi is now 10-1 in the dual-match season and 21-2 overall in
singles.

The Yellow Jackets will return home on Saturday, March 13 when they host
North Texas. The match at the Bill Moore Tennis Center is scheduled
noon.
