Silverio Witsken clinched the Yellow Jackets 2007 National Championship victory

 

ATLANTA – Former Georgia Tech standout Alison Silverio Witsken has been named assistant coach for the Yellow Jacket Women’s Tennis team, announced head coach Bryan Shelton Thursday.

 

Silverio Witsken, who has served as the NC State assistant women’s tennis coach the last three seasons, led the 2007 Georgia Tech tennis team to the NCAA championship and was also named NCAA Tournament MVP. She was a four-time letterwinner and helped steer the Jackets to three-straight ACC championships in addition to the NCAA title.

 

“I am so excited to have the opportunity to work with Alison again,” Shelton said. “I was fortunate to have the opportunity to coach her here at Georgia Tech and am very pleased that she has rejoined the program as our assistant coach. I will never forget the night that she clinched us our first national championship. She’s back to help us get it done again.”

 

“What an honor and privilege to not only be back at Georgia Tech, but to also be coaching alongside the greatest coach in college tennis," said Silverio Witsken. “I am excited to be back at my alma mater and can't wait to see where Coach Shleton and I take this very talented and driven team.

 

"Personally, I am eager to influence these student-athletes in a positive way and lead them to being champions in all aspects of their lives."

 

Silverio Witsken was named to the ACC All-Tournament Team in 2005 and 2007, and was named ACC Tournament MVP in 2005. A team captain her senior year, Silverio Witsken graduated as the school’s all-time leader in doubles wins (98), second in singles wins (107) and fourth in singles winning percentage (.711).

An outstanding student, Silverio Witsken was named to the ACC Honor Roll and the ACC All-Academic Team each of her four seasons in Atlanta. She was named to Georgia Tech’s Dean’s List all four years and won the ITA Scholar Athlete Award in 2005 and 2007. In addition, Witsken earned an ACC Postgraduate Scholarship in 2007. She also collected the 2007 ITA/Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship after her senior season and was a member of the Georgia Tech Student Athletic Advisory Board.

Prior to NC State, she worked as a Team Witsken Professional Tennis Instructor from 2007 until January of 2008.

Silverio Witsken graduated from Georgia Tech in 2007 with a degree in management and a 3.41 overall GPA. The Louisville, Ohio native married Matthew Witsken on January 9, 2010.
