Monday, 05/05/2014

HANOVER, N.H. - The No. 53 Harvard women's tennis stumbled in its season finale Saturday afternoon, with a 4-3 setback to Ivy League foe Dartmouth.

The Crimson (11-8, 3-4 Ivy League) got off to a good start, winning two of three doubles matches to take the first point of the contest. June Lee and Spencer Liang won at No. 2 with an 8-5 victory over Dartmouth's (8-9, 4-3 Ivy League) Julienne Keong Si Ying and  Suzy Tan, before Amanda Lin and Amy He fell to the Big Green's Melisa Matsuoka and Akiko Okuda, 8-5. Hannah Morrill and Monica Lin outlasted Katherine Yan and Taylor Ng, 8-6, on the first court, to put Harvard ahead, 1-0.

In singles, Harvard picked up two wins, one short of the necessary three to win the match.

A. Lin swept Keong Si Ying, 6-0, 6-2, in the sixth singles position to give the Crimson a 2-0 lead.

On the top singles court, Liang dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Yan. He's 6-0, 6-3 triumph over Matusoka at No. 4 put Harvard one win shy of victory, but the Crimson couldn't rally a win on the remaining three courts.

M. Lin was bested by Ng, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 2 while Morrill fell to Okuda, 6-3, 7-5. Lee challenged Jacqueline Crawford in the third slot to three sets, but couldn't capture the win as the freshman loss, 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-4.
