Bode Advances, Makes World Mark

Honolulu, HI (11/11/08) – Sea Warrior No. 1 singles player, Hendrik Bode defeated Chris Wettengel 1-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2. Bode won the wild card entry into the main draw of the Honolulu Futures and currently holds a No. 14 singles rank in NCAA Division II.

Wettengel was a quarterfinalist in last year’s Honolulu Futures and most recently lost to No. 8 seed, Dennis Lajola of University of Hawaii-Manoa at the Mauna Lani Kohala Coast Futures. With the win, Bode secures a spot in the top 2000 of the ATP World Ranking.

Bode will take on American Alexander Domijan in Round 2. Domijan upset the No. 1 seed, Uladzimir Ignatik of Belarus in three sets 6-3, 6-7 (2), 7-6 (6). After capturing the first set, Domijan, who currently holds a No. 857 ITF rank, was up 5-3 and 40-15 when Ignatik made and impressive come back and took the second set in tiebreak.

Bode’s match against Domijan is set for Wednesday, November 12 at 10:00 a.m.

The Honolulu Futures, a USTA Pro Circuit event, is the largest tennis event on Oahu, Hawaii and attracts many up-and-coming professional players from around the world.
