Top Ranked HCC Hawks Add Two for Spring Campaign
Thursday, 01/01/2009

As the New Year begins, the top ranked Hillsborough Community College begins its quest for repeating as NJCAA National Champions in 2009. The Hawks have inked two players,  Jillian O'Neill and Alessandra Pickerill, who will join the Hawks this spring to add to an already deep and talented Hillsborough team.  O'Neill from Beaconsfield, Canada may enter the Junior College scene as the top recruit in the country after being ruled a non-qualifier by the NCAA.  O'Neill has won a USTA Pro Challenger Doubles Title as well as many other Junior Titles including the 16's Orange Bowl.  Pickerill, a native of the United States, comes over from Germany as a top 350 player.  Pickerill's size and athletic ability will be a challenge for opposing teams and will fit in nicely in the HCC system.  Head Coach Chad Berryhill stated, "I am very excited about the two players we have coming in and they will both make a key contribution to our success this spring.  They both have the athletic ability, work ethic, and doubles skills that will allow us to be a tough team both in matches and in practice."  The Hawks kick off their season on February 2nd when they travel to Lakeland and take on the Mocs of Florida Southern College.
