Stemming from a $4.5 million package approved by the Michigan State Board of Trustees in 1985, the $1.9 million MSU Indoor Tennis Facility was the second of four new athletic contsruction projects to be completed on the MSU campus. The facility officially opened on Jan. 17, 1986.
The 69,000 square-foot building is one of the finest indoor collegiate tennis facilities in the country. Located on Mt. Hope Road on the MSU campus, the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility houses eight courts, permanent seating for 1,200 spectators (150 seats behind each court), men's and women's locker rooms and a pro shop.
The walls and ceiling are made with fiberglass tiles which resist punctures better than the materials used for commercial tennis facilities. The court surface is asphalt covered with latexite filler and color coats.
The MSU Indoor Tennis Facility serves the students, faculty, and university personel, as well as the Spartan men's and women's varsity tennis teams.
