LAS CRUCES – The New Mexico State women’s tennis team begins play in the 2009 Barnes Collegiate Invitational, Wednesday, against No. 53 Utah at the George E. Barnes Tennis Center.
The match will begin at 1:30 p.m. MT. Utah is 4-4 this season. NM State’s last meeting with Utah was in the spring of 2007 where the Aggies lost 7-0. Utah beat Nevada, 5-2, March 1, in their last meeting.
Head coach Don Ball said that his team is looking forward to getting back out on the courts in the nice weather in San Diego.
“Playing Utah will be a challenge, but it will be one of their first matches on the road and this will be our best opportunity to beat a team like that,” Ball said. “Playing outdoors and hopefully in warm will work to our advantage.”
NM State will play either Northern Arizona or No. 63 Texas Tech, Thursday depending on its first day results. NAU beat the Aggies, Feb. 20, 4-3. The third match will be played on Friday.
The 2009 Barnes Collegiate Invitational also features No. 44 Mississippi, No. 48 San Diego, New Mexico and UT-Arlington.
