GREENSBORO, N.C. --- North Carolina senior Gina Suarez-Malaguti has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, announced Tuesday by the league office.
Suarez-Malaguti earned a pair of singles wins and one doubles victory while helping the No. 1 Tar Heels to wins over No. 27 Georgia Tech (4-0) and No. 16 Clemson (4-3).
The Pembroke Pines, Fla., native teamed with Tessa Lyons at No. 3 doubles to defeat Georgia Tech's Jasmine Minor and Natasha Prokhnevska, 8-1. In singles action against the Yellow Jackets, Suarez-Malaguti dominated at the No. 1 slot and took down No. 89 Elizabeth Kilborn, 6-1, 6-2.
Against Clemson, Suarez-Malaguti was first off the courts in singles play following a 6-2, 6-4 win over No. 16 Yana Koroleva at No. 1. The win over the 16th-ranked Tigers marked the eighth win over a top-25 foe for Carolina this season.
The 19-2 Tar Heels continue ACC play this weekend with matches at No. 10 Miami and No. 30 Florida State on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
