Pepperdine Men Upset by Minnesota, 4-3
Wednesday, 03/17/2010

MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine men’s tennis team received singles wins from freshmen Sebastian Fanselow and Finn Tearney and sophomore Daniel Moss, but the #24 Waves fell at home to #51 Minnesota, 4-3, on Wednesday afternoon.

The #3 doubles team of Fanselow (Essen, Germany) and junior Alejandro Moreno (Queretaro, Mexico) quickly earned an 8-3 victory, but Minnesota (6-5) bounced back to take the #1 and #2 matches by 8-6 scores for the doubles point.

With the Waves trailing 1-0, Moss (Malibu, Calif.) evened the score by claiming a singles point in two sets (6-4, 6-1) at the #6 position. The two teams then traded points until they were tied at three, and the match came down to Pepperdine sophomore Alex Llompart (Carolina, Puerto Rico) and Minnesota’s Rok Bonin at #3. Trailing 5-3 in the third set, Llompart stayed alive and eventually forced a tiebreaker. But Bonin won the tiebreaker, 7-1, to give Minnesota the victory.

Pepperdine (6-7) will travel to the Lone Star State this weekend to face #18 Texas A&M on Friday (March 19) and #5 Texas on Sunday (March 21).
