SAN FRANCISCO – Hugh Clarke and David Sofaer won both their singles and doubles matches today at the Battle in the Bay Classic to advance to the finals of their respective brackets. Clarke will be vying for the main draw singles title, while Sofaer is set to play in the consolation finals. Together, they’ll compete in the doubles final.
Clarke (Brisbane, Australia/Brisbane Boys College) won his third-straight match of the weekend to advance to the singles title match. Today, he defeated Ivan Castro of Pacific 6-4, 6-1 before gritting out a three-set battle with Stanford’s Daniel Ho.
Tomorrow, he’ll face the #2 seed and #66-ranked Emilio Gomez. The unseeded Clarke opened the tournament eliminating the #1 seed, Damian Hume.
In doubles semifinal action, Clarke and Sofaer (Bellevue Hill, Australia/Sydney Distance Learning HS) topped Gomez and Eric Johnson by a tight score of 9-7.
In the championship match, the Waves will tangle with Stanford’s Walker Kehrer and Robert Stineman.
Sofaer earned two wins today to gain entry to the consolation finals.
