Waves One Win Away from Advancing to ITA National Team Indoor

MALIBU, Calif. – The #12 Pepperdine men’s tennis team advanced to tomorrow’s championship match of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend with a 4-0 win over #52 Cal Poly this afternoon. The Waves face the winner of the BYU-Vanderbilt match tomorrow (Jan. 28) at 2 p.m.
The ultimate winner qualifies for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in February.
Pepperdine is now 2-0 on the season, while the Mustangs fall to 0-3.
In doubles, the team of Alex Llompart (Carolina, Puerto Rico/San Juan Educational School) and Finn Tearney (Wellington, New Zealand/Wellington College) disposed of Jordan Bridge and Brian McPhee, 8-2 in the top match.
Hugh Clarke (Brisbane, Australia/Brisbane Boys College) and Mousheg Hovhannisyan (North Hollywood, Calif./Continental HS) clinched the doubles point with an 8-1 victory on court three.
In singles, Fanselow put the Waves up 2-0 after defeating Brian McPhee, 6-1, 6-1, and Llompart followed suit with a straight set win from the four spot.
On court three, Hovhannisyan defeated Marco Camuzzo, 6-3, 6-3 to clinch the dual-deciding fourth point.
Play was suspended on the remaining courts once the match had been decided.
