SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The #39 Pepperdine women’s tennis team opened the weekend with a 6-1 victory over Santa Clara. The Waves swept the doubles point before taking five of the six singles matches en route to their eighth win of the season.

Pepperdine (8-6, 2-0 WCC) got the afternoon started on the right note, winning all three doubles matches. #28-ranked Khunpak Issara (Bangkok, Thailand/Bangkok Patana School) and Lorraine Guillermo (Walnut, Calif./Rowland HS) downed Katie Le and Jessica Agra, 8-2 from the No. 1 spot in the lineup.

Playing No. 2 doubles, Arianna Colffer (Corona, Calif./Buena Vista) and Ali Walters (Newport Beach, Calif./Creekside Christian HS) defeated Kacie Wagner and Kelly Lamble, 8-5, while Megan Moore (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS) and Ale Granillo topped Stephanie Skaras and Brittany Wolny, 8-4.

The momentum carried over into singles and the Waves won five of the six matches to clinch the team victory.

Walters won her third straight with a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Skaras, while Moore allowed just four games in a straight-set sweep versus Wolny.

In the middle of the lineup, both Guillermo and Colffer emerged victorious. Although Guillermo dropped her first set to Wagner, 6-4, the freshman rebounded with a 6-2 win in the second frame. In the 10-point deciding set, Guillermo won 11-9.

Colffer put her match with Agra away 6-3, 6-3 from the No. 4 spot in the lineup.

Granillo tallied Pepperdine’s fifth singles win of the day, downing Lamble, 6-4, 6-3.

The Waves continue the road swing tomorrow, when they take on San Francisco at 11 a.m. on the courts of the Golden Gate Park.
