San Diego Stuns Pepperdine in West Coast Conference Championship Finals

SAN DIEGO – In the 2012 West Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championships, No. 3 seed San Diego upset No. 1 seed Pepperdine at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego for its first ever WCC title in program history. The Toreros defeated the reigning champion Waves by a score of 4-2.
After splitting the first two doubles matches, Pepperdine clinched the doubles point with a win on court three as the sophomore pair of Megan Moore (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS) and Ale Granillo (Pachuca, Mexico/Instituto Hidalgo) defeated juniors Stephanie Hoffpauir and Cara Brown, 8-5, to go up 1-0.
Singles play proved just as tight, and after two hours of play, the match was tied at 2-2 with action left on courts one, two and three. After a third point captured by San Diego junior Laura Claus on court three in a split set decision, it was senior Juliette Coupez that secured the match victory for the Toreros with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 win on court one over junior Issara.
Ali Walters (Newport Beach, Calif./Creekside Christian HS) logged the lone singles victory for the Waves, downing Marite Raygada 6-4, 6-0.
