ISSARA AND GUILLERMO FALL IN NCAA DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTERFINALS
Saturday, 05/26/2012

ATHENS, Ga. – Lorraine Guillermo and Khunpak Issara of the Pepperdine women’s tennis team were one of eight teams left in the 2012 NCAA Doubles Championship, beating two top-30 ranked duos to reach the quarterfinals and earn ITA All-American status. Their run came to an end this afternoon, losing to the tournament’s No. 2 seed.

Prior to today, Guillermo (Walnut, Calif./Rowland HS), and Issara (Bangkok, Thailand/Bangkok Patana School) defeated both Sun Wen and Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar of Texas A&M and Georgia Tech’s Jillian O'Neill and Alex Anghelescu in straight sets to extend their win streak to 16 matches.

This afternoon the Waves, ranked #32 in the ITA doubles rankings, faced off with #2-ranked Mallory Burdette and Nicole Gibbs of Stanford. The highly touted Cardinal tandem proved to be too much for Issara and Guillermo, and won 6-1, 6-3.

Guillermo who was voted the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year, and Issara, a WCC first team honoree in both singles and doubles, teamed up together for a 24-5 overall record during the 2011-12 season. In dual play alone, the pair went a dominating 20-3.

By virtue of reaching the quarterfinals, Issara and Guillermo were named ITA-All Americans, becoming the 10th doubles team in Pepperdine program history to earn the accolade.

This marks the end of Pepperdine’s 2011-12 season. The Waves return to action next fall with the beginning of tournament play.
