Junior Martin Sayer (Hong Kong) opened the day defeating No. 56 Benjamin Carlotti of North Carolina in the quarterfinals of the ITA Mideast Regional hosted by Virginia. However, he fell in his semifinal match to Virginia’s No. 65 Dominic Inglot.
He cruised to a 6-2, 6-4 over the fifth seeded Carlotti, but then fell to Inglot.
It was the third straight season, Sayer made it to at least the quarterfinals of this tournament. As a freshman, he pulled off some upsets to reach the title match and claim the co-championship. He reached the quarterfinals last season. This year he finished the tournament, 4-1, compiling a 12-2 record in three years at the regional.
The men will head to the Crimson Tide Fall Invitational, hosted by Alabama from Oct. 26-28.
