WICHITA, Kansas (SMU)-SMU women's tennis (21-2) improved their formidable win-streak to double digits on Friday, March 27 at the Genesis Health Club by earning their tenth consecutive win (4-1) against No. 59 Nevada (3-7) in stormy Wichita, Kansas where an inch and half of sleet on the ground moved Via Christi Collegiate Classic match play indoors.
Undaunted, the Mustangs started off on a high note, sweeping doubles competition with No. 43 freshmen pair Marta Lesniak and Aleksandra Malyarchikova downing (8-2) Caroline Bailly and Maria Mizyuk, and No. 60 duo senior Natalia Bubien and junior Pavi Francis defeating (8-6) Florence De Vrye and Lais Ogata at the number two spot. Recording their 12th straight win, junior Nicole Briceno and senior Kseniia Tokarieva routed (8-5) Aodhnait Lombard and Caroline Stevens.
At the top of the line-up in singles, No. 57 Lesniak posted a quick win (6-2, 6-2) over Bailly, while Malyarchikova matched up with Mizyuk at the third spot, fighting through a second set tiebreaker to remain undefeated (9-0) on the season. Also recording a victory, Briceno picked up a 6-3 win in the first set against Stevens, then emerged victorious with the match win for the Mustangs after a 7-6 skirmish in the second.
The Mustangs are scheduled to play Lousiville (8-7) on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Wichita Country Club for their second match of the Via Christi Collegiate Classic.
