Syracuse University - Facilities
Syracuse University is committed to providing state-of-the-art facilities for all of its student-athletes. It is no different for SU tennis. Student-athletes competing at Syracuse have access to some of the best tennis facilities in the country. Varsity tennis competition takes place at the Skytop Tennis Courts located in a recreational area of South Campus, overlooking the University’s main campus, the city of Syracuse and Onondaga Lake. Skytop consists of 22 plex-a-cushion courts, 16 on the upper bank and six on the lower level. All 22 courts are wind-protected. Bleachers are provided for the ever-increasing number of Orange tennis fans. Skytop was the site of the first-ever NCAA East Tennis Regional in 1996. The 1984 BIG EAST Tennis Championship was held at Skytop while the SUnity Life Tennis Classic was played there for 19 years starting in 1982. The Lois K. Good Tennis Pavilion, built in 1988, houses office space for SU tennis, an equipment storage room and restroom facilities. Drumlins Tennis Club serves as the Orangewomen’s home court during inclement weather and as SU’s practice facility in the winter and on rainy days. The club is a three-minute drive from main campus and has seven plex-a-cushion courts. Bleachers were added in 1996 for dual meet competitions. Adapting to the ever changing needs and demands of a Division I student-athlete is what the Syracuse University Athletics Department prides itself on. SU’s athletic facilities are among the newest, most spacious and most complete that you will find at any school. Manley Field House serves as headquarters of SU’s Athletics Department. The complex underwent major renovations five years ago, including expansion of the weight room and increased sports medicine facilities. The Roy Simmons Sr. Coaches Center, which was built in 1995 and dedicated in the Spring of 1998, houses individual offices for 26 head and assistant coaches. Moving the coaches offices to the coaches center allowed the former space to be remolded into a massively increased student-athlete support services area and expanded offices for the compliance department. Located within walking distance to the South Campus housing complex, where most student-athletes reside, is the Lampe Athletics Complex. The sprawling area includes Manley Field House, the 2,700-seat Coyne Field, the Soccer Stadium, the Joe Vielbig Track, and grass football, lacrosse, field hockey and soccer practice fields. In 1996 the new 1,500-seat soccer stadium was opened for the Orangemen and Orangewomen soccer teams. During the spring of 2000 the Softball Field at Skytop saw its first official action. Manley Field House is the home arena for women’s basketball and volleyball. Flanagan Gymnasium was built in 1990 and is connected to Archbold Gymnasium by a 110-foot glass-enclosed bridge. This athletic complex is nestled against the upper quad and is the most centrally located to all areas of university housing. Flanagan houses six basketball courts, two squash courts and eight racquetball courts with viewing galleries, a matted aerobics room, a cardiovascular room, dance studio and wrestling room. The Lampe Athletics Complex and Flanagan Gym stand as symbols of the commitment Syracuse University has made to assure its student-athletes are given the best available facilities to achieve success both on and off the field.
