TCU Nabs 6-0 Win Over Wichita State
Tuesday, 03/12/2013

FORT WORTH – TCU’s women’s tennis team claimed a 6-0 win over Wichita State on Saturday at the indoor facility of the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

The 19th-ranked Horned Frogs improved to 9-1 on the year and won their sixth-straight match. Wichita State slipped to 5-8. TCU has won all five of the matchup all-time between it and the Shockers.

“After not playing very well at UTA on Wednesday, I thought today was the best we’ve played all year,” TCU coach Dave Borelli said. “That’s the way a top-20 team is supposed to play. We’re still a long way from a top-20 team, but that was good tennis today.”

Only singles were played in the match due to time constraints and TCU rolled to straight-set wins in the five matches that were played best-of-three tiebreak sets. The match at court six was played as a pro set.

Millie Nichols scored TCU’s first point with a 6-0, 6-2 dismantling of Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul at No. 4 singles. No. 50-ranked Olivia Smith improved to 9-0 on the year when she took care of Lucia Kovalova, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles to give TCU a 2-0 lead.

No. 54 Stefanie Tan made it 3-0 in favor of the home team, grabbing a 6-2, 6-1 win at the expense of Rebecca Pedrazzi on the top singles court. No. 95-ranked Simona Parajova clinched the match for TCU with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Julia Schiller at No. 3 singles.

After the match was clinched, Federica Denti added a 6-4, 6-4 win over Montse Blosco at No. 5 singles, while Kelsey Sundaram was an 8-1 winner over Veronika Blaskova in a pro set at No. 6 singles.

TCU returns to action March 15 when it travels to West Virginia for its inaugural Big 12 match. It is the first of six-straight road matches for the Horned Frogs.
