Red Foxes Blank Saints 7-0
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's tennis team prevailed in its first dual match of the 2008-09 season on Wednesday, earning a 7-0 triumph over Siena in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contest at the Marist Tennis Pavilion. The Red Foxes won all six singles matches, and also won two out of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point.
Loic Sessagesimi (Blonay, Switzerland) earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at first singles. Nicolas Pisecky (Lausanne, Switzerland) won 6-2, 6-4 in the number two spot. At third singles, Landon Greene (Palos Verdes, Calif.) prevailed 6-0, 6-3. Matt Himmelsbach (Longmeadow, Mass.) posted a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at fourth singles. Rhys Hobbs (Sydney, Australia) won 6-0, 6-4 at fifth singles, while Jordan Keen (Ashton, Md.) won the longest match of the afternoon, a 6-7 (5), 6-3, 10-8 victory.
Although Sessagesimi and Himmelsbach suffered a 9-7 loss at first doubles, the Red Foxes won the second and third doubles matches to earn the sole doubles point. Pisecky and Greene won 8-1 in the number two spot, while Hobbs and Keen also won 8-1 at third doubles.
The Red Foxes will play in the UConn Fall Classic this Friday-Sunday before returning home to face Rider in another MAAC match next Wednesday.
Siena fell to 1-2 on the season. The Saints were also playing their first MAAC match of the season.
