Sessagesimi/Himmelsbach And Pisecky/Greene Win Three Matches Each
STORRS, CONN. - After sweeping Siena, 7-0, in their first dual match of the season, the Marist men's tennis program is back in tournament action at the UCONN Invitational this weekend. The now two-day event has been shortened due to inclement weather in the area.
On Friday, the players competed solely in doubles action, with Saturday holding singles and doubles matches.
Rhys Hobbs (Sydney, Australia) and Marcus von Nordheim (Munich, Germany) team up to defeat fellow Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) tandem from Fairfield, Rob Ferrante and Joe Michalisin, 8-5. The Stags team plays number one doubles for their squad. Hobbs and von Nordheim advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to Adam Gart and Michael Syer of Sacred Heart, 4-8.
In other Flight A doubles action Loic Sessagesimi (Blonay, Switzerland) and Matt Himmelsbach (Longmeadow, Mass.) triumphed over Jeff Chudacoff and Alessio Gallarotti won a tight match that extended to a tie break. The match score was 8-7 (7-2). Sessagesimi and Himmelsbach won to more matches to advance to the semifinals as well. The team defeated Chip Palumbo and Dan Sauter, 8-7 (7-5).
For Marist in Flight B doubles, Nicolas Pisecky (Lausanne, Switzerland) and Landon Greene (Palos Verdes, Calif.) defeated Chad Sullo and Chris Ujkic of Sacred Heart, 8-6. In the quarterfinals, Pisecky and Greene defeated Chris Bane and Mark Kremheller, 8-4.
Flight A doubles includes first and second doubles pairings, while Flight B consists of third and fourth doubles teams.
