FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU Women’s Tennis head coach Jennifer Gabou announced that three players have signed National Letters of Intent to attend FGCU and play for the Eagle women’s tennis team; two signees will begin at FGCU next fall, one will begin this spring.  The signees are Marissa Grammar, Melissa Narzissenfeld, and Farah Leclercq.

Marissa Grammar, 18, has signed to begin her career at FGCU this spring.  She is originally from Rochester, New York, and currently trains at the Sanchez-Casal Tennis Academy in Naples, Florida.  Coach Gabou said, “Marissa is a tremendous worker and coming from the Sanchez-Casal system knows how to compete on the court.  We are looking forward to her joining us this January as she is a very talented player whose potential is boundless.”

Melissa Narzissenfeld, a native of Tampa, Florida, has signed for the fall of 2009.  She is currently a senior at the Academy of the Holy Names in Tampa.  Coach Gabou is excited about Melissa, saying she “is a multi-talented girl whose work ethic and big game will be a welcome addition to our lineup next fall.  She is dedicated in everything that she does and is a welcome addition to the TEAM.”

Farah Leclercq, a native of Ocala, Florida, has also signed for the fall of 2009.  She is currently a senior at Vanguard High School in Ocala.  She is an outstanding student, rated in the 95th percentile of American tennis players graduating in 2009.  She has been accepted into the Honors Program at FGCU and plans to study pre-med.  She has played as the #1 for all four years at Vanguard and went undefeated in singles in her junior year, winning the district tournament.  Coach Gabou spoke about Leclercq:  “Farah is an extremely driven young woman both on the court and in the classroom.  She has a lot to contribute to our program and I believe that in our system her game will go far."

The women’s tennis team opens up the 2009 season hosting the Johan Kriek Classic January 17-19 at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
