Rock N' Roll & College Tennis

There's one way to spice up a tennis match and that's rock n' roll music baby! On January 24, from 7 - 9pm at Brown University (Providence, RI), rock n' roll music will be played throughout the ENTIRE dual match between Brown and Boston University men’s tennis teams. And yes, it will count toward team records. This puts a little twist to the traditional view of no talking or cheering between points.  It also puts a little twist to the way a team prepares and practices. The event will be the first-ever "Rock N' Roll & College Tennis" match, and it also consists of a shortened format with four singles and one doubles match (super breaker played for the 3rd set). Former Harvard Coach and Director of College Tennis Exposure camp, Ed Krass leads the promotional efforts to increase the popularity of college tennis and make it ‘more fit’ for television exposure. It breaks tradition and may raise some eyebrows, but with some college tennis program being dropped, little or no revenue and media coverage, and low fan attendance rates, why not try something new for our favorite sport?  Why not try and create an exciting new atmosphere for players and fans, and why not start with a little rock n’ roll!?

Your serve!  What are your thoughts on this topic? What are ways to increase the fan support for college tennis?

I like the idea of having music at tennis matches. I'd love to go and hear some hip hop music at a college tennis match. If I were a player again, I think this would make practice and matches more fun. Shortened formats would probably help. I would keep the three doubles matches. Doubles rock! And play the tie breaker for the third set in singles.

As if it weren't scary enough to face down one of Sam Garland, Brown '09's cannonball first serves, or wicked running forehands (Sampras anyone?), the thought of encountering his skills while the dark stylings of The Doors haunts the OMAC is truly frightening. I want my mooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmyyyyyyyyyy!

Ed Krass is awesome! I've entered some of his One On One doubles tournaments. It's really improved my all around game, especially at the net. I'm looking forward to his upcoming December 2009 College Tennis Exposure Camp collegetenniscamp.com Rock on Ed
