Lutes Split Conference Matches Against Linfield, George Fox

NEWBERG, Ore. – Pacific Lutheran split a pair of Northwest Conference men’s tennis matches on Saturday, losing 6-3 to Linfield in McMinnville before coming back for an 8-1 win here over George Fox.

With the split, the Lutes are now 2-3 for the season and 2-2 in Northwest Conference counters.

Linfield 6, PLU 3

Pacific Lutheran started out well with victories in two of the three doubles matches in the contest played on Saturday morning. Justin Peterson and Zack AhYat beat Nick Reussand Ward Van Mens, 8-4, at No. 2, and Kevin Floyd and Chris Dew got the better of Luke Rembold and Mark Magdaong, 8-6, at No. 3.

PLU picked up another point at No. 1 singles where Joel Trudel defeated Reuss, 7-6, 6-1, but Linfield won the remaining five singles matches, two of them in three sets.

PLU 8, George Fox 1

On Saturday afternoon, the Lutes lost only at No. 1 doubles in defeating the host Bruins. Michael Manser and Joel Trudel were 8-2 winners at No. 2 doubles and Floyd and Dew teamed up for an 8-2 win at No. 3.

Lutes winning singles matches were Trudel, AhYat, Peterson, Dew, Scott Sheldon and James Crosetto.
