HILTON HEAD, S.C.- For head coach Chi Ly, the spring break trip for his men’s tennis team can be very easily described to those who were not able to watch.  Smothering, stifling, suffocating or any word that describes total domination of opponents sums the play of Ly’s squad.  On Friday morning the Fish appropriately ended their spring break trip by throttling another opponent on the courts of Hilton Head.

The players of Dickinson College will have a long trip back to Pennsylvania to try and figure out what happened when they met the PBA juggernaut on Friday morning.  The Sailfish took an early 3-0 lead in doubles play and never looked back en route to an 8-1 victory over the Red Devils.

Once again, in doubles play, the Sailfish combined the experience of Seniors James Buerkle andJohn Tilton with the youthfulness of Krasi Atanasov and Luke Bolanos.
Buerkle and Atanasov were able to hold off the duo of Anstaett and Hejsek in the #1 doubles match 8-5 for the first Sailfish victory of the day.  Bolanos and Tilton followed with a victory in the #2 doubles match over Dickinson’s Holbrook and Marshall 8-6.  In the #3 match, Tyler Dealy andFrankie Moulton made it a perfect doubles day with their 8-5 victory over Wood and Kastner of Dickinson.

After building a solid 3-0 cushion after doubles play, the Sailfish did not let off the throttle in the singles matches.  Krasis Atanasov continued his assault on opposing players, as he extended his match win streak to twelve with a 6-4, 6-3 victory in the #1 singles match.

Seniors James Buerkle and John Tilton were able to close out their Hilton Head careers with solid victories in the #5 and #6 singles matches.  Tilton ended a stellar run at Hilton Head with a dominating 6-1, 6-2 victory to extended his match win streak to 8.  Buerkle followed Tilton with tight 9-8 victory over Dickinson’s David London.
Not to be out done, Luke Bolanos and Frankie Moulton followed up their stellar play in the doubles matches with equal performances in singles play.  Bolanos was winning his match 6-0 before his opponent retired in the second set, and Moulton hung on to defeat Dickinson’s Pavel Hejsek 7-5, 6-3 in the #4 singles match.

The Sailfish ended their run at Hilton Head with a 5-1 record on the trip and improved their overall record to 11-5.  They will be back in action on March 18 at home against Limestone College at 3:00 pm.  Be sure to check www.pbasailfish.com for all the match details and highlights.
