The Wake Forest women’s tennis team defeated NC State 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Leighton Stadium. Ryann Cutillo clinched the win with a speedy 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 to set the WFU season record at 10-4.
Emilee Malvehy and Aileen Davis earned the first win of the day, topping Daria Petrovic and Neils Barringer 8-2. Christian Tara and Katarina Reveche clinched the doubles point with an 8-3 win at No. 3.
Emilee Malvehy and Christian Tara put the Deacons within one win of taking Wake Forest’s 43rd all-time victory over NC State with straight sets wins at Nos. 4 and 3. But it would be over an hour before Cutillo clinched the final point, taking the court 6 only after Malvehy wrapped up at No. 3.
Katarina Reveche, Sierra Poske and Sasha Kulikova all faced third set battles. Katarina Reveche topped Diana Mortlock 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 to set the overall score at 5-0. Poske played a super tiebreaker for the third set but was narrowly edged 10-8 by Berkeley Brock to fall 4-6, 7-6, 1-0.
Sasha Kulikova was the last to finish, battling Lenka Hojckova on center court. Kulikova rallied back from a 4-3 deficit in the third set to post a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 win to close the match.
This weekend Wake Forest will host a pair of conference contests, beginning with Maryland on Saturday at 12 p.m. and wrapping up with Boston College on Sunday at 12 p.m.
