In their final home match of the season, the 12th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler men’s tennis team clinched at least a share of its sixth consecutive American Southwest Conference East Division title by blanking Texas-Dallas, 9-0, on Wednesday afternoon at the Summers Tennis Center.

The six division titles will set a new record for both consecutive and total titles in the East, surpassing the previous record of five held by Mississippi College. UT Tyler and Mississippi have combined to win all 11 ASC East men’s titles since the conference began.

In the match, the Patriots (13-3, 4-0) had little trouble with the Comets (2-11, 0-3) as they won all but one of the matches in straight sets.

With the wins, senior Dustin Phillips (Houston, Texas) and junior David Ashlock (Arlington, Texas) increased their team high win streaks to twelve and seven, respectively. As a doubles pair, the duo have now won a team high eight straight matches.

On Saturday, both UT Tyler tennis teams will return to action when the travel to Central Texas for a doubleheader. At 10 a.m., the Patriots will take on nationally-ranked Trinity in San Antonio, followed by a 4:30 p.m. match with Southwestern (Tex.) in Georgetown.
