(San Diego, CA) - The USD men's tennis team, with a national ranking of 74th, earned the No. 2 seeding for this weekend's 2009 West Coast Conference Men's Tennis Championships (April 17-19). On Friday USD will take on No. 7 seed Loyola Marymount in an 11:30 a.m. match at The Barnes Tennis Center in Point Loma. The WCC Championships are being held at the Barnes Tennis Center for the first time, and will run in conjunction with the 2009 WCC Women's Tennis Championships. Admission is free and there is plenty of parking available at the site (4490 West Point Loma Blvd.).

In the men's field, the bracket is as follows: No. 1 seed Pepperdine (ranked 17th in nation), No. 2 seed San Diego (74th in nation), No. 3 seed Portland, No. 4 seed San Francisco, No. 5 seed Saint Mary's College, No. 6 seed Gonzaga, no. 7 seed Loyola Marymount, and No. 8 seed Santa Clara.

First day match-ups are as follows: 8:00 a.m. (Pepperdine vs. Santa Clara; San Francisco vs. Saint Mary's College), 11:30 a.m. (San Diego vs. LMU), and 3:00 p.m. (Portland vs. Gonzaga).

The Pepperdine men's team has historically dominated the WCC Championships, winning 18 straight titles and 39 overall. The San Diego Toreros are the only other current WCC program to have won the men's title, earning back-to-back crowns in 1988 and 1989. USD is paced by sophomore Dean Jackson (Soest, Germany) who was recently named co-WCC Player of the Month for March. Jackson owns a national singles ranking of 57th and is 14-4 this spring. In his freshman campaign he was named the WCC Freshman of the Year as well as All-WCC First Team Singles.
