LAS CRUCES – New Mexico State head tennis coach Don Ball announced Thursday that he has signed Ginet Pinero and Ros-Polly Nguyen to National Letter’s of Intent to continue their educations and play tennis for the women’s team beginning in the fall of 2009.
Ros-Polly comes over from Saint Julia en Genevois, France while Pinero hails from Caracas, Venezuela and both are incoming freshman.
Assistant coach Ivan Fernandez said that with two graduating seniors (Stephanie Eusebe and Paulina Zuniga) that it was very important to try to bring in a couple of young, established and experienced players.
“These two players will have an immediate impact on the upcoming year’s team,” Fernandez said. “They are both not only strong tennis players, but are also very focused on academics as well. By bringing in two freshmen, I know they will have an immediate impact in the team’s lineup in singles and doubles, but they will also grow into being team leaders on the court and on campus for years to come.”
Ros-Polly currently has a French rating of 0/6 and has been a -2/6, which is comparable to the rankings that current Aggies Laura Boguet and Eusebe had in France. Boguet played the second singles position and Eusebe played No. 3, so her skills match up at a top level.
Ginet Pinero had an International Tennis Federation (ITF) ranking of 580 and was ranked in the Top 10 in Venezuela. She’s spent the last six months training in Florida at the International Tennis Academy USA (ITAUSA).
The Aggies are coming off their 18th-straight season where they have registered 10 or more victories. Returning to the team next year will be seniors-to-be Boguet, Aleksa Costa and Sophia Marks, juniors-to-be Bianca Discordia and Isabela Kulaif and sophomore-to-be Natalia Salum Soto.
