Dear Slug Fans,

The Slugs sailed into the final 8 with a comanding 5-0 win over Claremont in the finals of the NCAA Regional hosted in Santa Cruz!  In a dominating performance the Slugs won 8-4 at  two doubles with Jared kamel and Marc Vartabedian  and  8-4 three doubles with Max Ortiz and Colin Mark-Griffin to set the tone for the match.  At one doubles we were down a break and two points to go down two breaks at 4-6 15-40.  Max Liberty-Point and Ilya Gendelman faught back to hold and break but again fell behind  love fourty at 6-6.  Senior Ilya Gendelman dropped two aces and an unreturnable to dig out of the hole which led to the hold.   It took several match points but Ilya and Max broke  for the doubles sweep.

In singles we won five of the first six sets and served for the other set.  Ilya Gendelman put the Slugs up 4-0 with a 6-1,6-3 win at four singles.  Marc Vartabedian iced it with a 6-2,6-1 win as six singles.  When the match was called Colin Mark-Griffin was up as set and serving 5-2 and Max Ortiz was up a set and a break.  Jared Kamel was up a set and on serve when the match was stopped.

It was another great day and our fans were fantastic.  We sincerely appreciate all the support and were thrilled to see former players, parents, athletes, friends and family to help us share in the celebration of our five seniors last home match.  I could not be more proud of their effort and look forward to the final site clash starting on May 19th.  Most of the other regionals will end tomorrow while we are celebrating mother's day!

Thanks again for all your help and support and I will write soon with details for our finals run.

Sincerely, Coaches Hansen, Parmelly and Dorfman and the Slugs
