ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. (May 13, 2009) – The No. 6 Hawaii Pacific Sea Warriors took the St. Edward’s Hilltoppers to a 5-1 finish Wednesday in the first round of NCAA Men’s Tennis Tournament action.
The Sea Warriors (15-4) advance to quarterfinal action, Thursday, May 14, where they look to take on thewinner of the Metro State/Drury match to finish later Wednesday afternoon.  St. Edward’s (15-12) concludes their season ranked 20th in Division II, with help from No. 43 Brett Powers along the way. 
Hawaii Pacific jumped out to a 2-1 lead from the 28th-ranked duo of Daniel Luedi and Nikola Petrov picking up an 8-3 victory over Brett Powers and Mick Walter in the first slot.   
In the second position, Sebastian Bader and Hendrik Bode helped HPU to a hard-fought 8-6 win over Justin Raiti and Nick Arnold before third-slated Boris Barrios and Bernard Lancaster helped St. Edward’s to their only doubles win as they dropped Aleksandar Markov and Anton Samuilau 8-5.
Singles action saw Hawaii Pacific run three-straight victories to pick up the go-ahead for next-round play.  In the first slot, No. 28 Petrov picked up two 6-4 decisions over No. 43 Powers.  The second and third slots remained unfinished while fourth flight Samuilau dropped Walter 6-4, 6-1.
Fifth slated Bader went 6-1, 6-0 over St. Edward’s for their fifth win of the day as he topped Barrios to leave three matches unfinished on the day.
Hawaii Pacific University will continue on their trek for an NCAA Championship title Thursday at 9:00 a.m. when they take on the winner of the Metro State/Drury match to be completed after a brief rain delay.
