Raquel Castro will play in the 2009 Caribbean Games
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (June 19, 2009) - The countdown has commenced for the University of North Florida women's tennis player Raquel Castro, having to wait just 23 more days until she will have the opportunity to represent her home country, the Dominican Republic, in the 2009 Caribbean Games.
The Caribbean Games will serve as a platform to showcase some of the elite athletes around the Caribbean. "What an achievement for Raquel to be nominated to play for her country," Head Women's Tennis Coach Rodrigo Puebla said. "The amount of experience she will gain by playing against this kind of talent and on such a big stage will benefit her tremendously."
During July 12th through the 19th, the University of the West Indies will play host for the 27 participating countries. This will be the inaugural Games that Trinidad and Tobago have ever hosted. The events chosen for the 2009 Caribbean Games are Tennis, Track and Field, Boxing, Netball and Volleyball.
Opening day ceremonies will begin on July 12, followed by tennis prelims the next day at the Shaw Park Grounds in Tobago.
