Nedunchezhiyan to compete in the main draw at the All-American Championships.
SKILLMAN, N.J. – The 2009-10 tennis season is now officially open for business as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its preseason rankings today in advance of the fall tournament season which begins in less than a month.
Washington junior-to-be Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, a First Team All-Pac-10 performer last year, will enter the fall ranked 32nd nationally in singles. That is up 20 spots from where he ended last year and just one spot below his career-high. Nedunchezhiyan reached his first NCAA Singles Championships last year and finished the year with a 20-9 record.
Derek Drabble, heading into his senior year, and junior-to-be Martin Kildahl are ranked a very impressive 11th in the preseason doubles poll. The duo came on strong at the end of last year, reaching the Pac-10 semifinals and barely missing an NCAA tourney selection. They finished the year ranked a career-best 31st.
Drabble and Kildahl’s No. 11 ranking is tied for the third-best ever by a Husky doubles pair. Alex Slovic and Daniel Chu were ranked as high as No. 5 in 2005.
The fall season begins on October 3rd with the ITA All-American Championships, the first of three major individual events on the college tennis calendar. Nedunchezhiyan has been selected for the main singles draw.
