Honolulu (10/25/09) – At the Honolulu Masters Tennis Open, HPU senior Daniel Luedi fell in the championship match to Leo Rosenburg, 6-4, 6-3. The match was played at the Oahu Club.
“Daniel played very well,” praised HPU Coach Stefan Pampulov. “It was a terrific tournament for him. He’s shown great improvement over the years and will be one of our top players this spring.”
Luedi topped the field’s #2 and #3 seeds in the tournament. He beat UH-Manoa’s Jeremy Tweedt (7-6, 6-1) in the quarterfinals, then defeated former HPU star Mikael Maatta (5-7, 4-3, ret.).
Several other HPU players had solid tournaments, highlighted by junior Sebastian Bader who defeated top-seeded Ikaika Jobe in the quarterfinals. “That was a great win for Sebastian,” said Pampulov. “Defeating a player with a world ranking is a great accomplishment.” Bader would fall to Rosenburg in the semifinals.
The HPU men’s tennis team resumes fall practice in preparation for the NCAA collegiate season starting in February.
