Washington opens home season with PNW Intercollegiates on Nov. 6-8.
BERKELEY, Calif. – The Husky men’s tennis team’s run at ITA Northwest Regionals came to a close today as juniors Alex Rosinski and Tobi Obenaus had their excellent doubles run ended in the semifinals. Obenaus and sophomore Matt Stith also bowed out of the singles consolation semifinals.
Rosinski and Obenaus could have given themselves the inside track on a starting spot in UW’s dual lineup with their stellar play this weekend. After upsetting the fifth-seeded team from Stanford yesterday, the UW duo took out another seeded pair, 9th-seeded Schleining and Zivkovic, with an 8-3 win this morning.
In the semifinals, Rosinski and Obenaus came up just shy of the final, dropping an 8-6 decision to Fresno State’s Zapletal and Leiby.
Junior Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and freshman Kyle McMorrow nearly joined their teammates in the semis, but fell in a tiebreaker in their quarterfinal match-up with Andrews and Konigsfeldt of California.
Obenaus went to a third-set super-tiebreak in his consolation singles semi with Cal’s Sky Lovill, but the Bear playing on his home court prevailed 6-3, 1-6, (10-5). Stith fell to USF’s Asaf Cohen, 6-3, 6-0.
Washington will debut at home for the first time this year in two weeks, hosting the Pacific Northwest Intercollegiates on Nov. 6-8 at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
