HPU's Dominic Mcluskey wins in singles play

Los Angeles (2/16/10) – at the LMU Tennis Center, the HPU men’s tennis team defeated Loyola Marymount University, 4-3. The Sea Warriors close their mainland trip at 5-1, with LMU falling to 0-4.

HPU won despite LMU taking a 1-0 lead after earning the doubles point. Aleksandar Markov and Sebastian Bader won at the three, but LMU took the No.1 and No.2 doubles matches. Nikola Petrov and Dominic Mclusky were defeated by Ivan Lopez and Otto Sauer, 8-6, at the one, and Daniel Luedi and Anton Samuilau fell to Borja Malet and Renzo Maggi at two doubles, 9-7.

In singles play, HPU won in one, two, and three singles en route to capturing the win. Petrov defeated Lopez at No.1 singles, 6-4, 6-1, Markov topped Sauer 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, at the two, and Mclusky won at No.3, 6-4, 6-4, over Malet.

For the second straight match, Samuilau picked up the deciding point of the match. At No.6 singles, he defeated Aris Andreasian 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 to give HPU the 4-3 win.

HPU returns home and will have nearly three weeks before they retake the court. The Sea Warriors next face off against UH-Hilo on Friday, March 5. Start time at Central Oahu Regional Park is set at 9:00 a.m.
