MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Both Xavier University of Louisiana tennis teams concluded the AUM Spring Invitational with 5-1 losses Sunday to Oklahoma Christian.
The Gold Rush (7-6), ranked 13th in the NAIA, lost its fifth in a row and finished 0-3 in the event. All the losses at AUM were to ranked NAIA opponents. It's the longest losing streak for XU's men since dropping the final two duals of 2003 and the first three of 2004.
Sean Richardson and Cameron Knowles scored the Rush's only point when they defeated Esteban Flores and Chase Miller 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.
The Gold Nuggets (9-7), ranked 19th, were 1-4 in the event and have lost three straight. All their losses at AUM were to ranked opponents.
Anastesia Opata and Angelina Callis, ranked 14th in doubles by the ITA,  defeated Maja Vuzem and Maja Plavsic 8-6 at the No. 1 flight for the only XU point in the women's match. Plavsic is ranked third in doubles but with another teammate.
Oklahoma Christian's women are 7-3 and ranked seventh in the NAIA, and the men are 12-1 and ranked 10th. Xavier defeated OCU's men 5-4 in the opening round of the 2009 NAIA National Championship.
The next competition for both XU teams will be a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday at the University of New Orleans Tennis Center. Xavier, which leads the GCAC men's and women's standings, will play Mobile at 9 a.m. and Spring Hill at 2 p.m. Both opponents of the Nuggets are ranked -- Spring Hill is 21st, and Mobile is 25th.
