CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern women’s tennis lost just eight games total in singles action and never relinquished a set as the Buccaneers dominated Wofford College 7-0 Thursday afternoon at CSU Tennis Complex.
The Buccaneers (13-1, 5-0 Big South Conference) blanked their first opponent of the season, and the Terriers (1-17, 0-6 Southern Conference) dropped their 12th-straight match and their third straight by a 7-0 margin.
Charleston Southern started strong by winning all three doubles matches. Andrea Schutte and Angie Torres had to battle Haley Baird and Guinn Garcia from No. 1 doubles in an 8-7 (7-1) nailbiter. Olga Makhova and Marija Dzakovic had a much easier time dispatching of Stephanie Cox and Lindsey Larkin at the second doubles position in an 8-4 victory.
CSU won the third doubles match by forfeit.
The Terriers were no match for Charleston Southern in singles action as they lost in straight sets across the board.
Makhova picked apart Baird 6-2, 6-0 at the first position, and Schutte dominated Garcia 6-0, 6-0 from No. 2 singles. Dzakovic overpowered Cox 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3, and Brooke Pletcher blew through Lucy Schermerhorn 6-2, 6-0 from the fourth slot.
Susita Das coasted over Larkin 6-2, 6-1 from the fifth position. Wofford had just five players and forfeited No. 6 singles.
CSU improved to 9-0 at home and WC dropped to 1-10 on the road.
