St. Cloud State University's Catarina Franca (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Women's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played between March 29 and April 4.  This marks the first time in 2010 that Franca has earned NSIC weekly honors, and it marks the fourth time this season that a St. Cloud State University athlete has received Player of the Week notice.

A sophomore, Franca posted an impressive 6-0, 6-0 victory at #2 singles for the Huskies over NCAA Division I rival Katie Elifson of South Dakota State on April 1. To complete the day, Franca carded an 8-4 win at #1 doubles along with partner Jaquelyn Doll over SDSU’s Caitlin Brannen and Megan McDougall.

Of note, Franca provided two of the Huskies’ 4 points in a tough 5-4 dual match loss against DI rival SDSU on April 1 in Sartell, Minn. In her first season with the Huskies, Franca is a perfect 13-0 in singles action and 12-6 in doubles play this season.

The Huskies are currently ranked #1 in the region in the latest ITA poll, and they are ranked #50 in the nation in the ITA Division II national poll.  The defending NSIC champions, St. Cloud State currently owns a 6-0 NSIC record this season and a 15-4 overall record.

The Huskies will host Minnesota State (10-9, 5-2 NSIC) on April 8, at Gold's Gym in Sartell at 4 p.m.  SCSU will complete the weekend with a huge NSIC showdown against rival Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D. on April 9.  Augustana is also undefeated in NSIC play this season at 7-0 (14-0 overall).  On April 10, the Huskies will ended their Dakota swing with a match against University of Sioux Falls.
