GAMBIER, OHIO – The Kenyon College men’s and women’s tennis teams recently announced the hiring of Ross Wilson as the Lords and Ladies new assistant coach. Wilson takes over for John Cox, who left in December to become the head men’s tennis coach at Vassar College.

Wilson brings a wealth of experience to Gambier and previously worked at the collegiate level as an assistant coach at Ohio Dominican University from 2009 to 2010 and as Ohio State University’s hitting coach from 2007 to 2009. Wilson’s background also includes experience on the world stage as a coach for Sharon Fichman, who ranked among the top 100 women professionals in the world, on the WTA tour. He also guided the Tahitian women’s team to a bronze medal at the 2007 South Pacific games.

Additionally, Wilson has developed some of Columbus, Ohio’s top junior tennis players and tutored four state champions and one national champion over the last three years.

During his playing days, Wilson helped Ohio State become a national powerhouse. He served as team captain of the 2006 Big Ten Championship team that finished the year ranked fifth in the country following an appearance in the NCAA quarterfinals. As a Buckeye, he won three NCAA national titles and became part of the only doubles team to win back-to-back ITA National Indoor championships. He was named to the ITA All-Star team in 2005 and 2006, and was a member of Team USA in the 2006 Collegiate World Games in Izmir, Turkey.

After graduating from Ohio State, Wilson joined the ATP tour where he won three professional titles, competed in numerous International events, and was ranked among the top 60 touring professionals in the United States. Wilson reached an ATP World Doubles Ranking of 587 and a World Singles Ranking of 1,089 in two years on the tour.
