WICHITA, Kan.- Wichita State men's tennis player Matheus Pereira has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week.

Pereira, a junior from Sao Paulo, Brazil, defeated Gregoire Lehmann of No. 43 Arkansas, 6-4, 6-3, and Matt Frost of No. 65 Southern Mississippi, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3. Playing in the number one doubles position, he and his partner David Cavalcanti defeated Matt Frost and Inaki Belloso of No. 65 Southern Mississippi, 8-2. Pereira and Cavalcanti are ranked No. 72 in doubles.

Pereira is 11-2 on the season in singles, playing all of his matches in the number one position. He has won seven straight matches and is 9-1 in his last ten. In doubles, he and Cavalcanti are 10-3 on the season, and are 8-2 in their last ten.
