ATHENS, Ga.—Sophomore Jacqueline Cako fell to Anya Morgina of South Carolina, 6-3, 6-3 in the opening round of the 2012 NCAA Singles Championship in Athens, Ga. on Wednesday.

“Anya Morgina from South Carolina played a great match. She is a big hitter and today she was spot on with her game,” said head coach Sheila McInerney. “She made very few errors and had Jacqueline on her heels the whole match.”

Cako was named a top-16 seed for the NCAA Championships, earning All-American honors for the second-consecutive season. Cako is the first Sun Devil to earn back-to-back All-American honors in singles since Adria Engel who earned three straight honors from 2001-03.

“Jacqueline really felt good going into the tournament and probably put a little bit too much pressure on herself to do well,” said McInerney. “I’m really proud of Jacqueline for battling hard today and proud of her year overall.”

Cako finishes the season with a record of 17-5, including finishing as the runner-up at the 2011 ITA All-American Championships where she defeated then-No. 1 ranked Jana Juricova of California in the quarterfinals.
