PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Baylor women's tennis sophomore Ema Burgic racked up two straight-set victories at the ITA/Riviera All-American Championships on Tuesday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.

“Ema continues to elevate her level of play with each match,” head coach Joey Scrivano said. “She played two quality opponents today. With each match, each opponent gets tougher.”

In the first match of the qualifying draw, Burgic delivered a straight-set victory over Duke’s 35th-ranked Hanna Mar, 6-2, 6-2. Following that win, Burgic defeated 55th-ranked Caroline Rohde-Moe of Mississippi, 6-3, 6-1. Tuesday’s victories give Burgic five consecutive straight-set victories in the tournament.

Burgic now needs one more win to secure a spot in the main draw of the ITA/Riviera All-American Championships.

“She’s obviously done some good things on the court, and has her toughest match tomorrow,” Scrivano said. “I told her before the tournament, ‘You’ve just got to focus on one match at a time,’ and she’s done a great job at that.”

Burgic continues singles play with a match against 85th-ranked Yale junior Elizabeth Epstein on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. CST. Burgic will also start play in the doubles main draw alongside Jordaan Sanford on Thursday.
