Tennis will be in the early fall air beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday when Jacksonville College hosts a United States Tennis Association (USTA) Campus Showdown.
The showdown will feature divisions in mens and womens singles and mens and womens doubles, with some players traveling in from different areas of the state.
“Interest, particularly in the mens divisions, has been high,” Kenneth Michaud,Jacksonville College head tennis coach said.”I know we have some men that are traveling in who live over three hours from here.”
At 10 a.m., the J. F. “Buddy” and Jeanette Aultman Tennis Complex will be formally dedicated during a special ceremony.
The Aultman family donated the funds necessary to give the college's tennis courts a much-needed face lift this summer.
The courts are now Jacksonville's newest and finest and they have been receiving heavy use by, among others, members of the school's new tennis teams.
“We have been looking forward to this day for a long time now,” Michaud said. “We are thankful for and are proud of our new tennis facilities and are excited about dedicating the courts to the Aultmans.
“Our (USTA) Campus Showdown will give us an opportunity to show off our facility and to build awareness in our new tennis program. We encourage all Jacksonville College supporters to come out for what we believe will be a special day.”
The public is cordially invited to attend and there is no admission charge.
Bleacher seating will be available.
Members of the Jag Club, the school's booster club, will be serving grilled hamburger plates, that can be purchased for $5.00, each beginning at noon.
