PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - On day four, and day two of main draw competition at the Riviera ITA Women's All-American Championships, Friday, the University of Tennessee No. 34 women's tennis doubles team of Brynn Boren and Kata Szekely continued their winning streak with yet another upset.
Boren and Szekely took on the No. 5 ranked doubles team in the country, Emina Bektas and Brook Bolender of Michigan, an NCAA doubles contender in 2011. The UT duo continued their hot streak with an 8-4 victory, extending their ITA win-streak to six games and in doing so advanced to the semifinals of the tournament.
"I am really proud of the way the girls have fought their way to the semis of the tournament," said co-head coach Mike Patrick. "They have represented Tennessee with class and determination this week."
Boren continued play in the afternoon defeating the No. 8 player in the country, Sabrina Santamaria of USC in three sets 6-7, 6-1, 6-3. After the win, Boren went on to face No. 6 Lauren Embree of Florida, in a pseudo rematch of Thursday's UT doubles win.
Embree came out on top this time with a three set, 6-4, 5-7, 2-6 victory over Boren, ending her singles time at the tournament.
Boren and Szekely will return to action Saturday afternoon when they face No. 16 Beatrice Capra and Hanna Mar of Duke in the semifinals.
