PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - University of Tennessee women's double partners Brynn Boren and Kata Szekely experienced something Saturday that they hadn't the rest of the Riviera ITA Women's All-American Championships. Loss.
The duo fell for the first time during the doubles tournament after six straight victories including wins over No. 2 UCLA, No. 5 Michigan, No. 15 Florida, and No. 26 UNLV.
In the main draw semifinals, however, the twosome just couldn't get past No. 19 Beatrice Capra and Hanna Mar of Duke, falling 6-4, 6-4 to end their time at the tournament.
"The girls had a great run and a great week this week at the tournament," said co-head coach Mike Patrick. "It is unfortunate we didn't play our best today, but Duke played well and I am really proud of the girls right now."
The Lady Vols will be back in action at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional beginning on Oct. 18 in Purdue, Ind.
