FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Elena Kordolaimi highlighted the final day of the Razorback Classic for the University of Houston women's tennis team by winning her third match in three days to claim the singles flight title.
"This was easily Elena's most complete tournament as a collegiate player," head coach Patrick Sullivan said. "It's encouraging to see her hard work on and off the court translate into positive results. Watching her outplay the competition in a one-match format is nothing new, but to see her physically outlast high-level opposition in a three-day tournament shows her progress as a tennis player."
Kordolaimi, a sophomore from Lamia, Greece, posting two gutsy three-set victories in the first two days of competition to reach the singles finals, where she cruised past Stephen F. Austin's Valeria Terentyeva by a score of 6-2, 6-2 to claim the third flight title for the Cougars this fall. Kordolaimi improved to 4-1 overall in tournament play in her first season at Houston.
Fellow sophomore Liselot Koenen was also in action in the singles consolation draw, where she fell to SFA's Margot de Haan by a score of 6-2, 6-2.
Kordolaimi and Koenen competed in the doubles consolation flight title as well, where the Cougar duo fell to SFA's Yoo and Servise by a score of 8-5.
The Cougars return to action on Oct. 19 at the ITA Texas Regional in Waco, Texas.
